The Biblical Picture of the Tongue

"The man who cannot control his tongue deceives his heart." Pastor Clyde

"If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless." James 1: 26 (NKJV)

There is an organ that is part of the human body, which controls the direction of the entire body. This organ is described as a fire, a world of iniquity; unruly evil and full of deadly poison (James 3: 6-8). According to the eyes of God, the appearance of the tongue is vile. Why? Because the power within it is often used to curse, kill and bring destruction. How many untold deaths have been caused by the  tongue untamed? The number would be staggering. The Bible teaches us that death and life are in the power of the tongue and we will eat the fruits from the seeds of our words. Not only is the Believer commanded to control the tongue, we are also taught how to use it.

"Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body." James 3:3 (NKJV)

The bit that connects to the bridle is placed in the horse's mouth so that when the rider pulls on the reins the pressure is felt inside the horses mouth. Wherever the horse turns its head is where the entire body is going to go. It is the same with our mouth. If all we speak is evil against ourselves, our brethren, our environment or our communities than all we should expect is death. Death everywhere, even within our own bodies. Why? Because our tongue turn our whole body around to walk in the path of death. But if we put the bit - which is the WORD of God- in our mouths, than when God pulls those reins we move in His direction. We speak life, even in the hardest, most desperate situations.

Stay tuned for more!
