Love. Blood. Possession.

You can’t consecrate anybody. Consecration is a voluntary act. God wants our voluntary act of love and devotion in response to His Love and faithfulness which He has shown towards us. We have been studying Romans 12:1 in this theme of consecration. Let’s look at what Leviticus 8:22-23 says:

“And he brought the second ram, the ram of consecration. Then Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram, and Moses killed it. Also he took some of its blood and put it on the tip of Aaron’s right ear, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.”

We see that the blood was used as a mark of ownership to signify the consecration of Aaron and his sons into the priestly service. When Moses put blood on the priests’ right ear, God was saying, “HEAR ME! I own you.” When the blood was placed on the priests’ right thumb, God was saying, “DO WHAT I SAY! I own you.” When the blood was placed on the priests’ big toe on his right foot, God was saying, “GO WHERE I SAY! I own you!”

For us now in New Testament times, this message still continues. The Blood of Jesus Christ is the seal of ownership. The Holy Spirit living inside us is the seal of salvation. We claim the Blood for protection, for healing, for cleansing but it also means that we are consecrated unto God. We have a part to play in this exchange. It was Jesus’ Blood for our lives. He did His part. We have no right to fall short on doing our part. Giving Him our all is the least we can do.

“Love. Blood. Possession. For God so loved the world that He gave blood and now has possession of my entire being because I am redeemed.” – Rev. Clyde C. Williams
